Company Formation
MONTI Werkzeuge GmbH founded in Bonn by Werner Montabaur and Detlef Thomas. Within 12 months, the first 43 mm brush belt system — 'MONTIPOWER', launches.
U92 & Decapower
The first patented 23 mm belts (U92 and Decapower) hit the market as power-drill and angle-grinder attachments for automotive and DIY applications.
First Pneumatic Drive Unit
The first pneumatic drive unit lays the foundation for the MBX® series, which quickly makes its name in the automotive industry.
The MONTI Color-Coding System
Different belts developed for different applications, categorised by the color-coding system (black, ocher, green, blue) still used today.
Vinyl Zapper®
MONTI develops the patented Vinyl Zapper® to remove vinyl, stickers, and adhesive residues from paint, glass, and metal, and moves into the sign industry.
Top 20 Tools Award
The US's MOTOR Magazine honours the MBX® series with the Top 20 Tools Award.
MONTI Tools Inc.
Subsidiary MONTI Tools Inc. established in Houston, Texas, to serve the North American market.
Bristle Blaster®
The patented Bristle Blaster®, the first hand-held brush belt system producing sandblasting-comparable surface roughness, opens the door to a huge range of industries.
Relocation to Hennef
The company unites three Bonn sites under one roof in Hennef, bringing the whole MONTI family together.
New Tool Development
Development begins on the Cleantech Prepper, Subsea Equipment, Autarq, and the battery-powered Bristle Blaster®.
Monti Group

Detlef Thomas, 1956–2018
The MONTI family is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our Co-Founder and Director, Detlef Thomas. Detlef was with MONTI from its earliest beginnings and was one of the primary architects of its success. For more than 30 years he led the company's global expansion and growth in the automobile and industrial surface preparation industries.
Detlef was a remarkably authentic, larger-than-life personality who brought his creativity, energy, and inexhaustible drive to the power tool industry. He is deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and the global MONTI community he helped build.
